Multiple calls on WhatsApp just got less confusing thanks to call waiting

What you need to know

– WhatsApp’s latest update adds calling waiting to the app.
– If you receive a second call while you’re already talking to someone, the call
won’t automatically get rejected.
– You’ll now get a notification for the call, and the option to end your current call
to switch to the second one.
– There’s also a fix for battery issues on OnePlus phones.

WhatsApp just got a really neat feature with its latest update. WhatsApp is making multiple calls less confusing with call waiting that lets you automatically create reminders using the messaging app, though that’s pretty cool, too. And it’s not about call waiting support.

Previously, when you received a call while you were already on one, WhatsApp would automatically reject it for you, and notify the person on the other side with a message I’m sure you’ve already seen more than once: “[Your contact’s name] is on another call.” The recipient, in this case, would only receive an addition to their list of missed calls.

Qualcomm’s new in-display fingerprint sensor is way, way bigger

When it comes to in-display fingerprint sensors, most manufacturers traditionally use optical sensors that shine light up through the display to read the ridges on your finger. The problem with this, though, is that light can get easily distorted when shone through materials like water or oil.

Qualcomm’s solution? Use sound.

Last year, Qualcomm unveiled a new kind of in-display fingerprint sensor for smartphones, dubbed the 3D Sonic Sensor. The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor uses sound pressure waves to read the ridges of your fingers. This means it presumably shouldn’t get distorted by other materials. On paper, it should work more reliably than optical options. In practice, we were fairly disappointed.

In our reviews of the Galaxy S10 series and Galaxy Note 10 series, the ultrasonic sensor proved noticeably slow and inaccurate. We didn’t see many other ODMs using the sensor throughout the year, but that might be about to change.

Qualcomm has just announced a brand new ultrasonic sensor called 3D Sonic Max. The new sensor is 17 times larger than the last generation, and Qualcomm says it can read up to two fingerprints at a time for better security. Qualcomm also noted that this sensor is faster than the last generation, but we’ll have to put it to the test in the real world to see if this holds up.

If history is to repeat itself, Samsung would likely be the first ODM to use the 3D Sonic Max sensor in its flagship Galaxy S11 series devices. Here’s hoping we see wider adoption across the industry as well.

Qualcomm wants everyone to have a 5G phone, announces two new Snapdragon chips

Qualcomm’s annual Tech Summit in Maui, Hawaii kicked off today with company President Cristiano Amon delivering the opening keynote. The takeaway theme this year, much like last year, is that Qualcomm is betting big on 5G and AI.

To that end, Qualcomm is announcing not one, but two 5G mobile chipsets this year, along with a whole host of other 5G talking points across various market segments.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 replaces the Snapdragon 855 as Qualcomm’s premium-tier mobile application processor. For 2020’s affordable flagship smartphones, there’s the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 765G. Both models supersede the Snapdragon 730 and 730G as more affordable, high-performance chipsets. All three chips boast next-gen AI and 5G networking capabilities.

Making 5G ubiquitous
As a flagship chip, the Snapdragon 865 boasts Qualcomm’s highest-performing hardware to date across a huge range of the chip’s components.

We can talk more about the technical specifications tomorrow, but what we can say right now is that the chip is paired with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X55 modem, the company’s second-generation 5G modem. It builds on the X50 modem we’ve already seen paired up with the Snapdragon 855 inside the first wave of 5G smartphones. Qualcomm is billing the Snapdragon 865 as a 5G platform, so expect to see a lot more 5G-capable flagship phones in 2020.

The Snapdragon 765 offers integrated 5G connectivity via a new Snapdragon modem. Qualcomm’s 700-series chipsets target the upper end of the mid-tier market. With 5G antennas and other components in tow, the Snapdragon 765 won’t make for cheap 5G phones, but it will certainly lower the entry price point compared to the 800 series.

There are actually two variants of this chip: the Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 765G. Just like the previous generation, the G model offers increased performance and features specifically targeted at mobile gamers. Both still offer the same advanced AI and integrated 5G capabilities.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G Mobile Platform Chip Front

Qualcomm promised to bring 5G to more affordable price points back at IFA 2019 and has delivered with the Snapdragon 765 and 765G. At the time, twelve device manufacturers were reportedly working on 5G phones featuring Snapdragon 700 series chips. The first of these should be with us in early 2020.

In the flagship tier, the Snapdragon 865 will undoubtedly power most of 2020’s premium smartphones, most of which will now boast 5G capabilities. The first of these handsets will likely be announced in Q1 2020 as well. Xiaomi says its Xiaomi Mi 10 flagship will launch with the Snapdragon 865 in Q1 2020. Oppo also confirmed it will launch an unnamed flagship powered by the 865 in Q1 2020.

Stay tuned for more coverage from the Snapdragon Tech Summit, between December 3 and December 5.

Airtel to offer unlimited calling to other networks with all unlimited plans starting December 7

Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and Jio revised their prepaid plans earlier this week and introduced FUP in off-net minutes. While the tariff has been hiked by up to 40%, Airtel has now announced another change to calls in unlimited plans.

Airtel announced that they are making changes to calling and starting tomorrow (December 7th, 2019), Airtel users can make unlimited calling to other networks and this is only applicable on unlimited plans available in Airtel. The company also said that there are “no conditions” applicable and users can enjoy unlimited calling to any network on all unlimited plans.

Unlimited calling to other networks with no conditions applicable means there won’t be any FUP in off-net minutes and it should be truly unlimited. We have to wait for more details regarding this tomorrow.

Based on users’ feedback, Airtel is making changes, and we can expect other operators to make changes in unlimited calling soon.

Reliance Jio announced new plans, see full list

Indian telecom company Reliance Jio has announced its new tariff plans. Prices have gone up by 40%. All these plans will be implemented from December 6. The company has introduced a new All In One plan.

Under All In One plan, customers will get 1.5GB data every day. Let’s start with a plan of 199 rupees. The validity of this plan will be one month. Under this, there are free calls from Jio to Jio. You will be able to talk to Jio on another network for only 1000 minutes.

The second plan is 399 rupees. Under this plan also you will get 1.5GB data every day. Its validity will be 2 months. Under this, free calls will be made from Jio to Jio, while 2000 minutes of calling will be given from Jio to other networks.

The third plan is 555 rupees. The validity of this plan is 3 months. Under this, users will get 1.5GB of data every day. Apart from this, there are unlimited calls from Jio to Jio. While 3000 minutes of calling will be available on other networks from Jio.

The fourth plan is 2199 rupees. 365 days validity will be available under this plan. This plan will also get 1.5GB of data every day and with it there is unlimited calling from Jio. With this plan, 12000 minutes will be given, which you can use to call from Jio to other networks.

There are three different packs in the 1-month plan from which you can choose. Data up to 3GB will be available. Keep in mind that a month means 28 days here.

Similarly, there are three to two packs in a 3-month plan. Here, 2.5GB data will be given every day. However, 1.5GB data will be available in the plan of Rs 555. There is only one plan for 12 months.

All these plans are being implemented from 6 December. If before that you recharge with three to four packs, then the next pack will start when the validity is over.

Jio VS Airtel, Voda-Idea: Know whose plan is better after increased rate

Reliance Jio has finally introduced new prepaid plans. The new plans of Jio are up to 40 percent more expensive than the old plans. However, Jio has claimed that customers will get up to 300 percent more data benefit in this. Customers will be able to buy new plans starting December 6.

A few days before this, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea also introduced their plans. Jio also claims that the company’s plans are cheaper than other companies. See here how much difference is there between Airtel, Vodafone-Idea and Jio plans.

Jio claims that in the two best selling plans of the industry – Rs 129 and Rs 199, customers will be able to save up to 15-20 percent compared to Airtel and Voda-Idea. If we see the comparison of prices, then it can be understood that Jio’s plans are cheaper by up to 50 rupees than these three companies. If you take as an example, 1.5GB data is being given daily with free voice calling in Jio’s Rs 199 plan. At the same time, the same benefits are being given by Airtel and Vodafone in the plan of Rs 248 and Rs 249 respectively.

It is worth noting that Jio is currently the only operator offering a prepaid plan with a validity of 2 months or 56 days. In Jio’s Rs 399 and Rs 499 plans, 1.5GB and 2GB data will be available daily. Also, 2,000 minutes of free calling will be available with a validity of 56 days. It will be interesting to see if Airtel and Voda-Idea also bring a 2-month plan between Jio’s competition.

Jio’s 84-day or 3-month recharge plan is up to Rs 100 cheaper than Airtel and Vodafone plans. Talking as an example, in the Jio plan of Rs 599, you will get 3,000GB of voice calling minutes with 2GB data and 84 days validity. These benefits are being given by Airtel and Vodafone-Idea in plans of Rs 698 and Rs 699 respectively.

If you talk about annual prepaid recharge plans, then these prices are around. Although live is still cheap. In Jio’s Rs 2,199 plan, you will get 12,000 voice calling minutes with 1.5GB data and 365 days validity. At the same time, the same benefits will be given by Airtel and Vodafone-Idea in the plan of Rs 2,398 and Rs 2,399 respectively.

Along with the benefits of these data and voice calling, prepaid customers of Jio will also have access to geoprime benefits such as 600+ TV channels, JioCinema, JioSaavn, JioNews, JioSecurity and JioCloud.

At the same time, Airtel prepaid customers will be able to avail Airtel Xstream Premium, Wynk Music Subscription, Free Hello Tunes and Anti Virus Mobile Protection from the initial plan of Rs 248.
